New ~ Effective 2021

  1. Current membership in Randonneurs USA is now required for all events. Please allow 48 hours to process your membership.
  2. This is a tentative/combined event with the Bonneville Cycling Club and will be their longest ride of the year, which they call “The Big Ride.”.

Wasatch Back 200 Plus — RWGPS Link — 229km RUSA-Sanctioned Brevet

229 km (142 miles) with 12,100 feet of cumulative elevation gain.
Time limit: 15:16 hours or finish by 22:16 (10:16 p.m.), assuming a 07:00 start. Route # 2797.

Note: the above route is a shortened version of route # 2699 (250km), which was planned for 2021, but due to some construction or freeway overpass demolition near Henefer, the above route will be used instead.

Start Time Check in at 06:30 with a prompt departure at 07:00. The check in closes five minutes before the start. There will be brief announcements right beforehand. If you did not preregister, please come 20–30 minutes early and pay with a check (or exact change in cash). Normally, brevets are held held rain or shine, but due to the many climbs on this route, it may be subject to postponement, if the weather is looking hypothermic (wet and cold).

Start & Finish Location Draper City Park, 12500 S 1300 E, Draper, UT. Be sure to sign in with the our rando group, not on the Bonneville Cycling Club (BCC) forms.

Registration If possible, please register 48 hours in advance so we have time to prepare the personalized brevet cards and cue sheets. If you did not pre-register, please come early and pay with a check (or exact change in cash). Since the RBA or trail boss will be riding with the group, he cannot wait for late comers (he can leave your brevet card on my windshield if you notify him or her).

Cue Sheet A detailed cue sheet and brevet card will be provided at check in. Do NOT rely on the online cue sheet as it may not be accurate. If you wish to preview the cue sheet, a PDF or OpenOffice version can be e-mailed to you upon request, or one will be sent out to everyone on the Google E-Mail Group, about a week before the event date.

Support This is a “self-supported” brevet. This means you will resupply at convenience stores or cafes along the route. There will be no SAG support and riders must apply principles of self-reliance. I will be at the start to handle the brevet cards, but since I will be riding with the group, so I cannot provide support during this ride.

If any of you have a friend or spouse that can help drive part of the route, please let me know. If they do provide support, it needs to neutral — that is equal support for all riders.

If you have to abandon the brevet, please call or text me, so I don’t wait for you at the finish.

Sanctioning See our “What is a Brevet?” page for more information on sanctioning.

Sun Data (approx.) Civil twilight/sunrise: 06:32/07:01

Reminders This is a self-supported event, so bring cash for stops at various convenience stores. Also have a pen in your bag in case the route requires answering an “Information Checkpoint.”

If You Are Late Please call me so I can arrange to leave you a cue sheet and brevet card. You can start up to an hour after the official start time, but subsequent checkpoint cut-off times will remain the same, as if you had started with everyone else. If you know in advance, or wake up Saturday morning and decide not to ride, please let me know so I won’t worry about you at the start. I will not be checking e-mail on Saturday, so please call or text me.
