Nebo Gallivant Series
These routes are both “figure 8 routes” starting in Nephi and head east making the gradual climb up Salt Creek Canyon on the south shoulder of Mount Nebo. After doing a loop in rural Sanpete county, the route returns back to Nephi (and to your car to resupply if needed). From there, each route heads off in different directions to the north or west, before finally returning back to Nephi.

Central Utah Series
These two brevets are designed to be ridden together and are a variation of the Nebo Gallivant routes below, but with additional distance in the flat farming land southeast of Utah Lake. Both routes stay together until mile 152 where they split ways. They travel on rural highways and roads in central Utah, passing through parts of the Utah’s West Desert, NE of Delta, and then into the flat agri-land south of Utah Lake and finally they make the climb up to beautiful Sanpete County. Typically, we prefer to start 300K routes at 6:30 a.m. and 400K routes at 5:00 a.m. but since these are shared routes, both distances will start at the same early time. If you really want to ride the 300 with a later start time…contact me!

Support This will be a self-supported brevet. The RBA (Richard) will be riding with the whole group as a participant. This means you will be getting your supply of fluids and extra food at convenience stores or cafes along the route. There is no SAG. In the event of any catastrophic problems, we recommend that you have a back up plan (a local friend that you might call for assistance). If you do have a friend or spouse that can help drive part of the route, please let me know — such help is always welcome. Assistance needs to be neutral roving support — that is equal for all riders.
If you have to abandon the brevet, please call or text me, so I don’t wait for you at the finish
Reminders This is a self-supported event, so bring cash for stops at various convenience stores, fast food establishments or cafes. Also have a pen in your bag, as this route requires answering several “Informational Checkpoint” questions. Also, this route has a fair number of turns—use of a GPS or smartphone (both may require extra battery backup) for navigation would be most helpful.
Lighting Lighting & reflective clothing is required which includes a front light mounted to your bike, a back up light (a headlamp will suffice) and a blinkie or two mounted to your frame. A reflective vest and ankle bands are required. Further details at the “Lighting” paragraph on this page.

I will not be checking e-mail on Saturday, so please call or text me.

Heart of Utah 300 — RWGPS Link — 300km Brevet
300.4km (186.7 miles) with 6,435 feet of climbing. Time limit: 20:00 or finish by 02:00 the next morning.
RUSA route # 1036.
Heart of Utah Introduction This figure-8 shaped route circumnavigates the center of Utah (the official marker is some 14 miles NW of Ephraim). This brevet is a combination of some of my favorite cycling areas in central Utah. This includes the location for the Sanpete Classic Bicycle Race and Fun Ride, a stage of the 2008 Tour of Utah pro race, Salt to Saint Relay Race etc. It travels on both highways and quiet farm roads. The route starts in Nephi, which is about 20 miles south of Provo. It then goes out to the west desert and then makes the gradual climb up to the old mining town of Eureka. The route then quickly drops down into Santaquin. It finally heads back to Nephi (where you can resupply from your car if needed), and onto to Gunnison and finally north through Sanepte County (yes, parts of US-89 north of Manti have little shoulder…please wear bright clothing and/or try to ride with one or two others for safety), eventually coming down Salt Creek Canyon to your car in Nephi.

Lighting Lighting & reflective clothing may be required for the first 30-60 minutes of this ride. Most riders will finish after dark — lighting will also be required then. If you haven’t done double-century rides as “all in daylight” events, we highly recommend you have lighting and reflective clothing with you from the start. If you arrive at the finish after dark without appropriate lighting and clothing you may be DQed— see our rules page for more info on this topic.
